YETI Sidekick Dry

This revolutionary product began as a cost saving exercise but ended up being on the most beloved products in the YETI product line. We realized the waterproof zipper on our Hopper products was too expensive for an accessory, but we still wanted a fully waterproof closure. I designed multiple iterations of waterproof closures before identifying a relatively unknown closure that utilized magnets. I worked with our test lab, engineers and factories to refine and improve this waterproof closure, defining the strength, polarity and placement of these magnets, ultimately creating a closure that exceeded the performance of a traditional waterproof zipper. This product was a perfect blend of a new technology designed with deliberate care to create a brand new user experience. Originally designed as an accessory, this product was an instant hit and ultimately led to the expansion of this product franchise into crossbody bags for anyone wanting waterproof protection for their essentials.
